Standard 4: Middle level teachers understand the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to working collaboratively with family and community members, and they use that knowledge to maximize the learning of young adolescents.

The students at South Davie are frequently provided with opportunities to learn more about their community and interact with them on community service trips. These real world experiences help the students understand their peers, encourage the children to work together, and identify ways that the students can find fulfillment in being a good citizen. The images above shows the eighth grade students on their field trip to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. The students sang to the patients and delivered Christmas presents which were purchased with their donations from "Crazy Hair Day." I fully organized this new South Davie tradition and asked the entire student body to create Christmas cards which were also brought to the hospital with the eighth graders.
