Every competent teacher knows that assessment is an ongoing process in the classroom. Both formal and informal assessment are used to evaluate what the students know as well as guide instruction. Not all children learn the same, thus, various forms of assessments are best. Above are examples of the kinds of formal assessments I use in my classroom. One, a quiz, focuses primarily on what the children know and understand. The other, a project rubric, also allows for formal assessment to occur yet provides opportunities for the children to excel based on the creativity as well as knowledge base.
